Where We Work
We work where trees are needed most. In the Sahel, a region south of the Sahara, the effects of the climate crisis are a daily reality. In this vast belt of dryland, which stretches across Africa, temperatures are rising 1.5 times faster than the global average.
Around 80% of people here depend on the land for their livelihoods. But as droughts intensify and soil hardens, families are losing the crops and incomes they rely on.
Without urgent action, a further 13.5 million people could be pushed into poverty by 2050. Restoring the land is not just essential — it’s a lifeline.
But where there is challenge, there is hope.
The Great Green Wall, which stretches across the Sahel, is an ambitious effort to restore forests, regenerate soils, and bring biodiversity back to life. It’s more than an environmental project. It’s a movement to restore the land, bring security to communities, and a sustainable future to one of the most vulnerable regions on Earth.
The Great Green Wall is just one of the ways we’re working hand in hand with communities to build a future where land and life grow stronger together.
Our Projects
We work across the drylands of Africa, in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Senegal, where the climate crisis is shrinking fertile land and putting pressure on the lives of more than 300 million people.
In these regions, trees are a lifeline. That’s why we partner with local communities to grow millions of them each year and to protect the land they depend on. Every project is led by the people who know their environment best, helping trees take root, supporting lasting livelihoods and protecting vital ecosystems.
