Trees are the seeds of survival

Tree Aid has been working with communities for the past 37 years to grow and nurture trees, providing families with nutritious food and income while restoring and protecting the land.

Trees offer a reliable source of food and support farming communities to adapt to the effects of the climate crisis. When crops fail due to flooding or drought, trees endure, providing fruit, nuts and leaves. These tree produce can be eaten or sold, ensuring families have a stable food supply. Families can grow and nurture their fruit trees, giving year-round access to food.

Trees that grow food

At Tree Aid we cultivate a rich variety of native and locally adapted trees that sustain the land and nourish the communities that rely on them. Here are just a few:

Baobab: This tree is known as the ‘tree of life’. The fruit is a superfood, packed with vitamins, and its leaves can also be used fresh or dried.

Moringa: Moringa leaves are packed with vitamins, protein, iron and calcium – essential for fighting malnutrition in children.

Shea: Rich in vitamins and minerals, it’s used by communities in cooking and frying and is a great substitute for cocoa butter that they can sell to earn a vital income.

Where does my donation go?

Whether you choose to give a one-off donation or a regular gift, you can be sure that your gift will be put to good use, providing support to communities across Africa’s drylands to protect their environment and grow a better future. During 2023/24, for every £1 raised, we spent 90p on charitable activities, 9p on raising the next pound, and 1p on advocacy and awareness.
