Senegal

Senegal is a country in West Africa. Many people living in rural areas here depend on the land to grow food and make money. But land is rapidly losing its fertility and trees are being cut down.

As a result, over half of the population are living in poverty. Here, many people face insecurity over their rights to natural resources. Women in particular rarely have access to the land, equipment and training they need to grow food to eat and sell.

Learn more about the Olympic Forest project from CEO, Tom Skirrow

"The project will combine enrichment planting and promotion of agroforestry systems, with the new planting of approximately 355,000 native diverse trees. We will be working in villages in two sub-catchment areas of the Senegal River and all of the restored project areas will be sustainably planned and managed by local people."
